Operating System Definition
Operating System (OS) is a type of software. Which is a set of instructions. This is the first program that is loaded into the computer. That is why it is called program of programs. And it is a group of software, hence it is also called System Software.
Types Of Operating System
There are two types of Operating System. CUI and GUI
CUI:- Its full name is Character User Interface or Command User Line. Which always requires a command to run. It is not user friendly. In this, only one work can be done at a time. Example :- MS Dos, Unix etc.
GUI:- Its full name is Graphical User Interface. No command is required to run it. It is user friendly. Which is easy to operate with the help of mouse. It acts as a bridge between hardware and software. In this, work can be done simultaneously in many programs simultaneously. Example :- Android & iOSfor mobile and Windows, Linux, MacOS etc. for computer.
Types Of Mobile Operating System
Android :- This is the operating system of the mobile. Whose versions are Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Frovo, Ginger Bread, Honey Comb, Ice Cream, Sandwich, Jelly Bean, KitKat, Lollipop, Marshmallow, Nougat, Oreo, Pie etc.
IOS :- This is a mobile operating system. Which is designed for smartphones of Apple company. Which is mainly used in iPhone, iPods.
Types Of Computer Operating System
MacOS – This is also the operating system of the computer. But this is seen only in Apple company's laptop Mac Book and desktop iMac. It is also called Machintosh.
Linux:- It is a free open source operating system. Which is mainly used in supercomputers. These operating systems are different for different tasks. This is a virus free operating system.
ChromeOS - This is an operating system created by Google. Which is designed for computers. Its special thing is that it gives a mobile-like experience to the computer.

Operating System Function
Manages the resources between hardware and application software. As -
Memory Management - There are two types of computer memory. One primary and the other secondary. Whenever any program is opened in the computer, memory is required. The operating system itself determines how much RAM and ROM memory a program requires. How much memory should be given to a newly started program? And which program has completed its work from which the memory is to be reclaimed. That is, the operating system itself keeps the computer's memory organized in different parts according to their functions. For this, it controls and operates the memory using the following software. Whenever any kind of problem arises in the computer. So the operating system tells. It also gives options to correct it. Which is also called Troubleshooting.
- Disk Defragmentation:- It frees up space for data which is called Disk Defragmentation.
- Backup:- It creates a copy of the data.
- File Compression:- It reduces the file size.
- Device Drive:- It controls and operates special types of programs.

Task Management:- There are many files in the computer. Organizing them in different folders and directories. Along with keeping records of each file, connecting various devices installed in the computer with the computer and monitoring their connections.
